Pregnancy cravings were something any pregnant woman had to deal with and Wendy was no different so when it hit she was craving a big mac and some fries like crazy. Glancing up from her homework at the clock she was surprised to see what time it was, twelve thirty already. She’d planned to do a bit of homework then head out to the stores to get a few things she needed and get something to eat once her stomach had settled a bit from the rolling anti-food feeling. Now she was very hungry and had been doing her homework for two and a half hours. She looked back at her book and counted three more questions needing answered before deciding she’d just take the book with her and finish it while she was eating. She needed to get it done for Monday and seeing as it was Saturday and she had one more assignment after this to finish, a paper to write, she needed to get this done today so she’d have time both days to get away from the books for at least a little bit and enjoy some sunshine.
Getting up she moved around the room putting a few things away and getting her backpack taking out the things she wouldn’t need putting her book and notebook into it so she could take that with her. Answering a quick text from a friend she moved over to the dresser to pick out clothes for today opening the second drawer down where she’d stored her “pre-baby clothes” as she called them. She’d gotten most of the clothes in sales and places where it was second hand, she’d only be wearing them while pregnant then giving them to charity so she hadn’t wanted t spend a ton on them. She picked out what she’d wear and moved over to the bed setting them down as she went to the mirror with her makeup bag to “put on her face”. She had plenty of practice and wasn’t going all out just to go to McDonalds anyway so she was done quick and changed her clothes grabbing a hoodie since it was a bit chilly out she pushed her sunglasses over her eyes pulling on a hat so she didn’t have to do anything with her hair and grabbed her purse and backpack heading out of the dorms.
Moving through the building she said hi to familiar faces and stopped to talk a minute with one of the girls she shared classes with before heading out onto the sidewalk walking toward town. She knew she needed to get a car instead of walking everywhere but right now she just didn’t have the money to do that so she got her exercise in walking to keep up with the weight she was putting on while pregnant so she could hopefully avoid too much baby fat after the birth. She pulled out her ipod putting in one of the earbuds so she could listen as she walked and saw the golden arches in no time. Heading inside she glanced around seeing an open booth and hoping it would still be that way once she had her order. She waited in line till it was her turn and placed her order paying and taking the food when it was ready glad to see the booth still available. Quickly moving over there before anyone else could take interest in the seat she wanted she sat down getting out her food and book eating a fry as she opened to where she’d left off reading over what she’d written as she took her first bite of the big mac her sunglasses resting on the table by the book and not paying attention just yet to whoever may be around. It was lunch time and she knew the place would be packed, she was lucky to have gotten a seat at all at this time of day.

Elias was famished and was taking his break from Bright Horizons, the child care center he was currently an intern. Of course he'd had a break here and there but he had eagerly choked down his snacks and went straight back to the kids. Elias adored children and watching the spark in their eyes as they played and learned something new was a growing passion of his. That was why he was going to school to study child development and was now currently in the middle of an internship. He planned on becoming a child psychologist later on but for now he was content with being a child care aide, just interacting with the kids on a daily basis was enough to allow him to die happy. With a shake of his head, he swiped the grin off of his face and headed towards his car. It was old and not anything fancy, just a Mustang Mach in supreme conditions which he loved more than life itself. Which was saying a lot considering how much he loved living.
Upon entering the ride, he shut the door and revved the engine, grinning at the roar it emitted before lowering itself to a perfect purr. Elias put it into gear and headed towards one of his favorite stops. McDonald's. Yes, it was bad for his health to say it was one of his favorite places, implying that he ate there frequently, but hell. He was young and healthy enough to enjoy some indulgences in life. As he was pulled from his private thoughts about McDonald's, he realized that he was pulling into the parking lot of it. With a grin, he found a spot and killed the engine before pocketing his phone and keys as he stepped out of the car. Heading into the restaurant, he scoped out the area and realized that the place was pretty packed. Checking his phone, he saw why. It was exactly lunch time, perfect for the rush hour. Just his luck. With a sigh, he hung back in the crowd and then finally made it up to the counter after a few moments. When his order was processed, he paid the girl and waited a bit more, tucking his hands into the pockets of his well-worn jeans. When his number was called out, he grabbed his tray and headed towards where he had seen a few booths open.
Turning the corner, he quickly had to avoid disaster as his Dr. Pepper began to tip over the side of his tray, threatening to splash all over the young red head who was sitting innocently at the booth he was passing. Swiftly throwing his hand out, he caught the drink before it could do any real damage, thankful that it hadn't fallen and ruined her books. "Sorry about that." Elias said aloud, unsure as to why he was bringing attention to himself and his almost disaster. He had just felt the need to say something even though he was sure the girl hadn't even noticed. God, he was such an idiot sometimes.

Wendy should have known better than to go out at this time of day but she’d been hungry and the sound of the people around her talking and laughing was a nice break from the silence of her dorm. She didn’t need to be talking to everyone to feel the sense of just people around people that helped her feel calm. Her ex hadn’t really ever let her go anywhere unless he was taking her along with him to some party or something and it was nice to be able to choose to go out when she wanted. That and the places she chose to go were better places than the drug and drunk filled clubs he’d insisted on going to and had told her to “just get used to” when she’d mentioned once she didn’t like going to those places. That was right before the backhand that had made the fact that she wasn’t supposed to question him very clear. She had kept her thoughts and what she did and didn’t like to herself after that because her staying quiet was better than him hitting her any day. She could just think it and be happy enough.
Working on one of the problems she was focused and not really paying attention, the sound of her cell going off surprised her and she picked it up reading the text and texting back before taking another bite of the big mac very happy she’d learned to just give in to the food urges. She’d tried to avoid things that were too fattening before she’d just learned to give in so she and the baby would be happier. Writing down a bit of the answer she ate another fry and didn’t notice the guy or his almost disaster going on over her head, she did notice the voice though and while it wasn’t exactly the same as his it was close enough to make her blood run cold a moment. She knew it was stupid to even think it was him for a second, he wouldn’t ever say sorry for anything and especially wouldn’t say sorry to her for something. No she was the one always saying sorry as she tried to fix whatever she’d done wrong to piss him off before he flipped and attacked or something.
Glancing up she put a smile on her lips that fell the second she saw who was standing there. It was him…he was here…she was going to be dead. Shaking her head fast she looked at him pale as a ghost and starting to shake a little. No…no it’s…it’s my fault. She mumbled knowing that was ridiculous since she had just been sitting there, but it was always her fault with him…she could have been in another building all together when something went wrong and it would still be her fault. Thinking only about getting away from him she quickly packed up what she’d set out on the table and threw her food into the bag grabbing everything and sliding out of the booth. My fault sorry... she mumbled as she almost bumped into him and prayed he’d let her get out of there without causing a scene. If he was here he should know where she was staying…her dorm wasn’t safe anymore but she could worry about that once she got away. Reaching for her drink she knocked it over watching the flimsy lid fall off and roll away as her water with ice went everywhere and felt her hands start to shake as she tried to wipe it up with the one napkin she had, not wanting to make him mad by making a mess and causing a scene like this.

Elias inwardly sighed with relief as he realized that the disaster had been avoided, thanks to his quick reflexes. He was glad that the girl and her work remained unscathed. He would have felt horrible if anything had happened to her because of him. His brother on the other hand was a completely different story. His asshole of a twin would have let the drink spill and then yelled at whoever it had landed on. Elias loved his brother because they were kin but dammit if he didn't want to strangle the guy on a daily basis. Sometimes he was glad that he had moved away in order to pursue a career, unlike his lazy ass twin. Setting the cup back on his tray, he apologized to the woman beside him, seeming to startle her as she looked up at him with wide eyes. He could see that she had gone pale and he wondered if she was okay. Elias could see a small tremor forming under her skin as she began to speak.
He could tell that something was wrong as she corrected him, saying that it was her fault. Elias was confused by what she was saying to him, knowing full well that nothing had occurred and, even if it had, she had nothing to do with it whatsoever. Except, well, to the victim of his mistake. Elias began to say something but she was moving so swiftly as she packed up her table that he was momentarily stunned. something was very wrong here and Elias wasn't sure what. Stepping out of her way as she stood, he watched panic and fear cross her face she told him once more that it was her fault, even apologizing as she spoke. Elias was definitely beyond confused. As she got up, she hit her drink and it toppled over, spilling it's contents onto the table and floor, narrowly missing his Converse. What the hell was happening here? He wondered.
As she began to clean up the mess, Elias set his tray on a nearby table and grabbed his own napkins, beginning to clean up the water that was making a mess of everything around them. "Hey, no. It's not your fault. I was the idiot who almost lost his drink." he said, looking at her face as he sopped up the liquid. "You definitely don't have to apologize." he told her, concern filling his amber gaze. "Nothing happened. No harm done." Elias wanted to figure out what was going on, he sincerely did. "Are you okay?" he inquired, tossing the soaked napkins into a heap as he continued to wipe up the mess, a little bit slower this time as his gaze latched intently on her shaken features.

Wendy had ran far to get away from him, once she was free of him she hadn’t wanted to be found ever again in fear of what he would do to her for running away. She’d saw an opportunity and had taken it knowing it was dangerous and that he could someday come after her her and find her…and if he found her she was in trouble. He’d always told her he’d kill her if she left him, and she believed he would because if he could beat her badly enough she was hospitalized for three weeks he could kill her just as easily. Seeing him here and now all she could think was how dead she was, how he would follow her or show up at her dorm and he’d kill her and the baby growing inside of her. A hand brushed against her stomach lightly at the very thought panicking even more at the thought of him hurting the baby. She couldn’t and wouldn’t let him…the baby deserved a chance to live and grow up no matter the mistakes its mother had made or how much of an ass his father was.
She didn’t look at his face, she’d not been allowed too before unless told to look at him because he thought she was trying to find out something she didn’t need to know. Paranoid seemed to be part of the way to explain her ex to be honest and she hadn’t ever wanted to try pushing buttons to find out how bad. She didn’t see the confusion on Elias’s face at the way she was acting, she was too focused on getting away, finding somewhere safe to hide or maybe just packing what she could and running away would be a better idea. She wanted to protect the baby, she was used to him hurting her but she didn’t want a child to know his anger or his fist.
When he began to help clean up the mess she cringed away a little, keeping distance between them and chewing on her lip nervously. Her bags and food lay forgotten on one of the seats of the booth now as she tried to stop the mess from becoming a big issue. No…my fault…sorry. She said when he told her it wasn’t her fault. It could be a test to see if she still remembered how things worked between them and that was a test she didn’t want to fail. She took a shaky breath and shook her head as she reached for more napkins from her bag to get more of the mess, dropping to her knees to clean up the water on the floor as well. If she cleaned up the whole mess maybe he’d not get too angry that she made a mess. Surprised by his asking if she was ok she couldn’t stop herself from looking up at him, confusion clear in her eyes. I…I’m fine. She said softly not sure why he would ask that…he never had before. Maybe it was because they were in public? A..are you ok? I…I didn’t get any water on you did I? I’m so..so sorry. She said her voice basically begging him not to be mad at her for it, as she prayed she didn’t get anything on him so he wouldn’t be even more angry.

This woman obviously had him confused with someone else. She just had to because there was no way Elias could have scared her this badly by just apologizing to her. Something had seriously spooked her and Elias wanted to figure out what it was so he could stop her from trembling. He wanted her to be okay, even if he didn't know her. As they cleaned up the mess, he noticed her hand flutter briefly over her stomach and he realized that she had a small bump. Dammit, she was pregnant! Which, of course, made him feel even more concerned considering how scared she was. Elias couldn't shake the feeling that it was something about him that scared her. His suspicions were confirmed when she flinched away from him as he moved to the table to help her clean up the mess the water had created.
As the water started to disappear from the table, she knelt down on the floor to clean up that mess as well. Elias didn't feel right, watching her do that, especially in her condition. No, it wasn't that he believed that pregnant women weren't capable of taking care of themselves but...Elias was a sensible guy. He tried to reassure her and remind her that it wasn't her fault and that she didn't need to apologize. But this only caused her to repeat herself, saying it was her fault and once again apologizing to him. When she realized that the water had almost reached him, she looked up at him in fear and asked him if he was okay, asking if she had gotten water on him. She apologized further. All of this coming from her mouth after she had told him she was fine. No, she wasn't fine at all. "I'm okay. No harm done." he repeated, kneeling down to gently take the remaining napkins from her hand to finish up cleaning the spill. He then collected the whole wad of them and threw them out before coming back down to her level and taking her hand as he gently pulled her back up.
"Everything's okay. This wasn't your fault. Accidents happen, alright?" Elias told her, trying to meet her gaze with his amber one. His heart was beating rapidly out of apprehension and concern. He wanted to know what was wrong because this wasn't a normal occurrence, she was practically having a panic attack right here in front of him. Ugh. Why did he have to be so clumsy at the wrong time? "I'm Elias." he said, wiping his hands on his jeans a bit nervously. His name was an unusual one, pronounced eh-lie-es. "And you are...?" he asked curiously.

Wendy knew she needed to calm down, any number of problems could come from her being this worked up and upset some of them from the pregnancy and other problems from being around so many people and someone else catching on and coming over to ask questions. She knew he’d be angry if someone came over to ask if she was ok when she was around him, he didn’t like people nosing in and he didn’t like anyone knowing he could upset her so easily just by being around. She didn’t want trouble she just wanted to get out of there and find a way to get somewhere safe. She knew asking the police for help was useless since they hadn’t helped her before so they wouldn’t now. She’d never actually had much contact with the police back then but the two times she had they’d left her with him after talking to him and it had been one of those times he beat her into the three week stay at the hospital.
She worked to clean up the mess fast and properly…leaving behind any mess would only mean trouble. That was a lesson learned and she wouldn’t ever forget it. She heard him say he was ok and no harm had been done and nodded quickly glad for that because if something had been wrong she’d really need to be afraid. For now he seemed oddly calm…it was strange not having his whispered words hissed at her in anger while she cleaned up the mess. She kept waiting for him to lean over and start yelling at her in a whisper for how she was acting and the mess she’d made. When he knelt down and reached to take the napkins she let them go pulling her hand back fast so he couldn’t grab her wrist or something. Th..Thank you. She said remembering manners were important as well since anything he did deserved a thanks according to him since he didn’t have to do anything for her because she was supposed to do everything for him.
She cringed again as he came back and took her hand to help her up, even if she was glad for the help the gentle touch was foreign because he wasn’t squeezing her fingers to break them or something like that. It was…it was my fault and I’m sorry…it…accident yes but it won’t ever happen again I promise. It won’t ever happen again. She said hoping it would help keep his anger down. He seemed to have gotten better at keeping the anger hidden in public and for that she was grateful. She blinked her eyes flying to his face in shock as he introduced himself, Elias wasn’t the name she knew him by for sure. E…Elias? she asked confused and then her eyes went wide again in surprise. You’re his brother…he…he said he had a twin…Elias is the name he said…oh god…I’m so…I’m sorry I didn’t…I thought you were him. She said remembering now and feeling foolish but still scared. Please…please don’t tell him where I am…I’m begging you please… she said her voice a whisper now so not everyone in McDonalds would hear her. I’m Wendy…I…I used to be with your brother I’m so sorry I thought you were him please don’t tell him where I am.

Elias' heart broke when she snatched her hand away from him as he took the napkins from her. Something was quite wrong, he knew it. Alarm bells were going off in his mind as he cleaned up the mess and got rid of the napkins. She thanked him and he nodded to her. When he swooped down to gently help her up, she seemed surprised by his gentleness or something. Whatever it was, she seemed astonished by the care and manners he was showing her. As he helped her stand, she continued to insist that it was her fault and that the accident was her fault. She apologized, saying that it wouldn't happen again. She even promised him that it wouldn't. She continued to repeat herself and Elias' concern only grew, his mind kicking into overdrive as he tried to figure out what had happened to cause this.
He introduced himself and she seemed startled to hear that name, as if she wasn't what she had been expecting. She repeated it, stumbling over it a little as she did. She commented that he was his brother and Elias realized that she was talking about his twin. Dammit. She told him that his brother had said that he had a twin and that his name had been Elias. She began to apologize and say that she had thought that he was his twin. She started to beg him not to tell his twin where she was and introduced herself as Wendy, saying that she had been with his brother. She again begged him not to tell. She apologized even more and Elias' heart broke further. Damn his twin! Realization dawned on him after a moment. Oh, God, no. This was the girl that his twin was so livid about. The one who had run away from him. She just had to be...There was no way that two of his girlfriends were in hiding. No, wait, he took that back. That was oddly true. However, this one was so scared and...pregnant, that she had to be his brother's latest ex.
"Hey." he said, gently touching her cheek with gentle fingers as he tried to calm her. "It's okay. We're identical, people are bound to get us mixed up." he reassured her, dropping his hand from her face moments before he lifted his arms up, holding them open for her. Elias barely knew her but she was so shaken that she needed some sort of comfort. "I'm sorry about my brother." he said, not even knowing half of the story of his brother's past relationships. "Come here." he said softly, concern and warmth filling his gaze as he looked at her. "I promise I won't hurt you. Nor will I tell him where you are." he told her gently.

Wendy knew the kindness wasn’t right, knew it didn’t add up at all but she’d forgotten he had a twin until he’d said his name. When she’d been with his brother he’d mentioned him a few times but had never let her meet him because he said she was “stupid enough to mix them up” or something like that. Meeting him now she knew that would have been impossible; the two were just so different even if they were identical. If her panic hadn’t taken over at the very sight of him she might have noticed there was a softness in his face, a kindness, that his brother never had and couldn’t even fake. She felt bad now for making the mistake and horrible for how she’d been acting around him. She knew his brother wanted people to be afraid of them and did all he could to make sure that people did fear him but she didn’t know Elias or know if he was anything like his brother.
Right now her biggest fear was that he was close to his brother, what if he talked to him regularly and told him he’d found her? She knew that there was a chance they weren’t close and he wouldn’t tell, but it was a big risk and a huge fear of hers. She’d just been considering leaving everything here to run for it again or going to the police or finding a deep hole to hide in at thinking Elias was him. She knew that now she had a bit more time to plan what she’d do and maybe she’d stand a better chance getting away, but she didn’t want to give everything up if he wouldn’t tell. For all she knew they didn’t talk that often or get along? Maybe he wouldn’t tell his twin that he’d found the girl who ran away from him fast as her legs could go?
She tried not to flinch at the touch but she did that with everyone anyway, she had problems with people touching her after the relationship with his brother. She knew most people wouldn’t just hit her for no reason but that didn’t stop the gut reaction of fear when a hand came near her. I’m still so sorry…I shouldn’t have just…assumed you…you’re identical but you do look different I just didn’t see that. She said trying to make it clear it wasn’t him who upset her but who she thought he was. She felt bad for being so weird toward a stranger. When he held his arms out she looked at them nervously a moment, listening as he said sorry about his brother and asked her to come closer. She looked at his face meeting his eyes before tears began stinging her eyes seeing no anger or violence in his expression. It was the kindness after she’d been so scared and the offer of comfort that had a tear sliding down her cheek as she willingly moved into his arms hugging gently still shaking just a little but calming down. Thank you…for not being angry…and you…you don’t have to say sorry for him. She mumbled feeling so foolish now and realizing once again how badly her ex still scared her. She’d thought she was getting better but obviously she wasn’t.

Wendy continued to apologize to him, this time for mixing him and his twin brother up. Saying that even though they were identical she could tell them apart now that she looked at him. She said that she hadn't noticed the difference before and she was sorry for that. He touched her cheek as she spoke and he could tell that she didn't like it. And yet she didn't move away from him or say anything about it. She didn't even hit him. Elias was satisfied with that so he dropped his hand before opening his arms to her, offering comfort to the girl that his brother, the asshole, should have cherished. She hesitated for a moment and he thought about dropping arms to make her feel more comfortable but then she moved closer to him and snuggled into his arms and against his warm frame. She hugged him gently and he could feel the tremors as they passed through her.
Elias listened as she thanked him for not being angry with her and commented that he didn't have to say sorry for his brother. Oh, but he did. "I have to." he said softly, bringing his hand up to her head to gently stroke her head as he would a little kid. It was all instinct. "He's my kin and that makes me partly responsible." he admitted with a sigh. He remembered her pregnancy and he had a thought run through his mind. Could it be his brother's? He figured the question would be out of nowhere but he really wanted, no, needed to know. If it was, then Elias would ensure that the child was taken care of financially, even if his brother didn't. That was if he even knew about the baby. Which was HIGHLY doubtful in this case. Knowing his brother, he would have forced this woman to abort. Elias would have never.
"You don't have to answer this if you don't want to...It's none of my business." he said softly. "But, I have to know..." Elias paused, hesitating. "Is the baby my brother's?" he asked calmly, his hand stilling and dropping from her head, his arms remaining loosely around her waist as he held her trembling body to the warm comfort of his own. He just had to know but he would respect her wishes not to tell if she so chose to deny him an answer.

Wendy didn’t want to be rude in moving away from his touch or asking him not to, the fear wasn’t his fault and he was just being nice. She had too little nice in her life and letting him offer some was something that was hard for her but pleasant at the same time. I showed her not everyone was going to hurt her, even people who looked just like the man who’d put that fear into her heart. She knew some of it had been her own fault, she shouldn’t have been stupid enough to listen to him at first when he’d started hitting her randomly. He’d said sorry and that he didn’t mean it and he wouldn’t do it again…she knew now that she was truly stupid for falling for that. It wasn’t true he’d kept hitting and it had only gotten worse till she had nowhere to run and no way of getting out of it. She was too scared of him by the time she’d realized…too little too late.
His hug both scared and calmed her because she didn’t know Elias or if he had his brothers way of being nice to someone to start off with then being mean later. It didn’t matter since it was the first time they’d met and because she didn’t think that he seemed like the type to be violent. She shook her head when he said he had to, figuring he meant apologizing for his brother, No you don’t... she insisted softly and let her eyes clothes actually accepting comfort for the first time in years. She frowned but didn’t open her eyes just listening to him for a moment and shaking her head opening her eyes now to look up at him. Just because you’re related doesn’t make his…his actions your responsibility. What happened…it was his doing not yours… she said trying hard not to imagine him being like his twin. If she started thinking he was like him she’d be running away from two men and she wouldn’t even know one of them more than this one meeting.
She listened as he spoke again, worried what he was going to ask from how he started the question and more nervous as he finished the question. She understood his curiosity, understood the connection he’d made in his head that would have led to him asking, but she was still scared about him telling his brother. The baby would be more of a reason for his twin to come hunt her down if he found out, he’d told her once if she got pregnant he’d throw her down the stairs to solve that problem. She couldn’t imagine losing the unborn child. She didn’t want to be rude though or make him angry if she didn’t answer, she didn’t know how he would react even though he seemed so nice. It…Yes it’s his…please I’ll do anything if you please just don’t tell him…if he knew he’d… she was starting to shake again the calm disappearing. He’d come here and he’d…he’d hurt the baby and please just don’t tell him you found me I can’t… she was starting to hyperventilate a little at the very thought and she pulled out of his arms knowing she needed to calm down but having a hard time finding calm.

When Elias told Wendy that he was responsible for his brother because he was kin, she shook her and looked at him after a moment, telling him that that wasn't the case. She said that it didn't matter if they were related because his brother's actions were not his responsibility. Elias figured that was true but he still felt responsible because he and his brother were twins which made them closer in chemical make-up than anyone else in the world. Except, well, other sets of twins. He could tell she was beginning to calm down in his arms and he inwardly breathed a sigh of relief. Another disaster seemed to have been avoided just now and for that he was grateful. He hadn't wanted her to embarrass herself by having an outburst in the middle of a public domain because he knew that she probably would have felt horrible. Because he knew that he would have.
After a few moments, a thought occurred to him and he hesitantly asked Wendy about the baby, wanting to know if it was his brother's. It took her a moment, but she answered, saying that it was. Elias was shocked but he hid his surprise well as he looked at her. He had expected his brother to get into some kind of jam like this but he was glad that his brother didn't know. How did he knew that his twin didn't know about the child? Well, no girl would be dumb enough to tell his brother. That and Wendy became fearful again, asking him not to tell his brother about the baby. Actually begging him not to say anything about where she was or about her condition. She pulled out of his arms as she began to hyperventilate and look at him with fear in her eyes. Elias became concerned once more as he watched her.
Moving swiftly, he gently took her by the arm and sat her down at a nearby booth, cleared out his food bag, setting his lunch on his tray once more, and handed it to her as he took a seat across from her. "Don't worry about it. My brother's an asshole, I would never put you and the child in his direct path." he promised her calmly. He grabbed both of their lunches and set them on the table in front of their respective places. "It's okay." he reassured her smoothly. "You can eat." Elias said, looking at her beautiful face. His brother had good taste in females, he had to give him that. "I can even leave if you want. You can pretend you never saw me." he said with a small shrug as he took a sip of his drink.

Wendy was one of those people who didn’t blame others for one person’s mistake or actions. She didn’t think it was fair to hold their faults against others when they weren’t the one who did the wrong. She believed in people owning their actions, which was part of why she accepted responsibility for being stupid enough to stay with her ex even after he’d started getting violent. She knew she had no one but herself to blame for staying in that situation and she knew he had no one else to blame for his being like that. Simple facts that made a picture that was actually very ugly. Two people making huge mistakes with their lives and in the end only one of them did anything to change it. She had known she needed to get out of that…he would have killed her if she’d stayed. She wasn’t ready to die.
When he asked about the baby she knew she was over reacting, knew she needed to calm down and not completely freak out like she was doing, but she couldn’t help it. The thought of Elliot finding out was enough to make her want to go into hiding, forever. That’s what she’d done running away, she’d just taken off and not contacted anyone she’d known back then since. It was hard just walking away from her family and the very few friends she had but she’d had to do it. Anyone knowing where she was could lead to a slip up that meant he’d find her and she would be in even more trouble than she’d been in while living with him and facing his anger every night. She had a baby to protect now and while she didn’t find out the sex for another few weeks she was still attached to the little one growing inside her and didn’t want anything to hurt the baby.
Wendy tried to force herself to calm down as he led her to the booth and she sat, her breathing was getting a little better and when he said he wouldn’t put her and the baby in Elliot’s path she let in a shaky breath fighting the tears in her eyes. It didn’t work and a few slipped down her cheeks making her lift her hands to hide her face as she calmed farther. Oh god…I’m so sorry…I just…I can’t let him hurt the baby…too important to me. She said in a voice that was shaky from the tears still falling down her cheeks. Lowering her hands once she had more control over herself she wiped away the evidence of the tears and nodded a little, Thank you… she said and looked at the food shaking her head very far from hungry now. She looked up as he offered to leave and shook her head biting her lip. No it’s ok…I’m sorry I just...it scares me to think he might someday find me and find the baby and what he’ll do when he does. You don’t have to leave I’m going to try harder to stay calm I promise. She said softly and took another calming breath a thought coming to mind. He wouldn’t…wouldn’t come here to visit you would he?

Elias sat her down and spoke gently to her, trying to ease her fears and calm her worries with his soothing demeanor and smooth voice. Tears started to fall from her eyes as she began to sniffle and cry a little but Elias didn't mind, letting it pass without comment. Dammit, what did his moron of a brother do to this girl? Geez, Elliot was just so fucking stupid. Elias was often perturbed to admit that he had any ties to the bastard. She said that she couldn't let him hurt the baby because it was too important to her. Elias understood where she was coming from and knew in his heart that his brother would never know about this child. While some may think that was cruel, to never let a father know about the child they created, Elias knew that it would be even more cruel to let him know. Elliot wasn't...right in the head. At least as far as his restraint went when it came to anger.
"Stop apologizing." he said calmly. "I'm not Elliot." After a moment, she thanked him as she wiped the tears from her face and he nodded. Silence fell for a moment before he suggested leaving and allowing her to pretend that they had never met. She shook her head as she bit her lip and said that he didn't have to, admitting that it scared her to think that Elliot could find them. Damn his twin! "He won't do shit if I have anything to do with it." Elias vowed. After realizing his cursing, he muttered an apology, "Sorry." he relented before he heard her speak up once more, asking if Elliot would come and visit him here. Elias thought about it for a long moment and figured it was basically impossible. Elias looked into her eyes and sighed, "No. He won't come looking for me. We used to be tight as kids but since we've gotten older...we've gone our separate ways." Elias paused. "He has his life and I have mine." he confessed.
Elias unwrapped his burger and took a bite before setting it back down on its wrapper. He watched Wendy for a moment and sighed once he'd swallowed. "Even knowing that that's my brother's kid, I'm not going to force my way into your life because you didn't know me before today or whatever..." he paused, thinking over his words. "Anyway, in place of my brother, I would like to help support the baby financially." Elias told her, his hand coming to the back of his neck as he rubbed at it nervously. Dropping it from his neck, he picked up his drink and took a long sip. "Deny me if you will," he commented, "But that would be the very least I could do." He told her softly.

Wendy needed to start seeing the doctor again, the freak-out today proved that the woman had been helping somehow since she hadn’t flipped like this in awhile. She knew it probably had more to do with her thinking it was Elliot to start off with than just freaking out about people being so near to her but she also knew she’d be looking over her shoulder and nervous for awhile after this. It wasn’t Elias’s fault, he couldn’t help looking like his brother and he’d been nothing but nice to her the whole time they’d been talking so she couldn’t and wouldn’t blame him but she could and would blame her own mind and it’s state of being fucked up for how she was. She would blame his brother for breaking her this badly that she’d be jumping at shadows for awhile now. Seeing the psychologist wasn’t her favorite thing to do but if it helped her get her mind back and the calm then she needed to do it.
When he told her to stop apologizing she blushed, her cheeks lighting up with a red glow of embarrassment that came from his calm words. I know you’re not Elliot…it’s habit I do this with everyone. She admitted softly and knew his frustration with her being like that wasn’t new. Her few friends said the same thing to her without naming the man because she never told anyone who it was or even much about her past to be honest. Saying sorry for everything had been a way to avoid his fists so she did it out of habit now. She looked at him when he vowed that Elliot wouldn’t do shit…shaking her head when he said sorry after. I’ve heard worse than shit Elias. She said softly with a tiny smile and nodded. Thank you. You…It’s hard to explain how much it means to me that you won’t tell him where to find me or about the baby. She admitted her voice still soft. It meant more to her than her own life was worth to know her child was safe. She relaxed visibly as he said Elliot wouldn’t come looking for him to visit. She was so relieved to hear that and it showed in her face and body language. Good…because if he came here…well it’s just too dangerous to have him anywhere near where I’m living. I can’t let him find me She said shaking her head a little.
She watched him take a bite of his food and frowned a little realizing something. Oh geez I’m so sorry…you just came in here to get something to eat not deal with your brother’s ex girlfriend freaking out. She said running a hand through her hair frustrated with herself. Do you want me to buy you another burger? You shouldn’t have to eat cold food because of me. She said digging in her purse for her wallet so she could buy the burger she offered. She looked up at him when he began speaking and listened to him shaking her head a little, If you won’t tell him I don’t see anything wrong with you knowing your brothers child? The baby’s part of your family even if his father’s clueless to its existence. She explained seeing the logic in her own words. When he offered to support the baby financially she swallowed hard and took a moment to try to figure out what exactly had just happened. She knew money would be an issue raising a baby and going to college and she’d been prepared to do whatever it took to support the child including dropping out of college, but he was offering to help the baby and she knew it was wrong to accept but she couldn’t help thinking that if it was for the baby it might be ok? I don’t…I can’t just take your money without you knowing me Elias…but…but if you wanted to get to know me maybe we could be friends and maybe…maybe knowing me and in time knowing the baby it might be ok some day? she suggested not wanting to just take his money. She knew she’d find a way to support the baby somehow. You don’t have to though you know…I knew running away that I’d have to support the baby on my own. I’m ready to face whatever comes for the good of the child.

When Elias heard Wendy tell him that she knew he wasn't Elliot and that it was a habit she had with everyone, he shook his head. And yet, he understood habits. They were definitely hard to break once they were formed. After he cursed, he apologized and he felt good when he actually saw a smile cross her face as she told him that she had actually heard worse than that. He laughed, "My momma drilled it into me at a young age not to use foul language around women." He said with a shrug, laughing further. "And I happen to love my mother." he said, grinning. She thanked him when he said he wouldn't tell and he nodded, listening as she told him how much it meant to her to have him keep this secret from his brother. He could see the relief flickering in her eyes as he told her that Elliot wouldn't be coming to visit him and that was confirmed when she commented that it was good, saying that it was important that he didn't find them.
When he opened up his food and took a bite of his sandwich, he could tell that Wendy was kind of bothered by the idea of him eating cold food because of her. This was confirmed as she started to grab for her wallet, apologizing once more and asking if he wanted her to buy him a new burger, saying that he didn't need to eat cold food because of her. See? Elias had been right. "Don't worry yourself over it." he said before taking another bite of his food. Elias began speaking, telling her that he wasn't going to force himself into her life even though that was his nephew, she disagreed by saying that if he wouldn't tell Elliot about his kid, she didn't see any reason why he couldn't be in the kid's life. He nodded his agreement and then offered to cover the kid financially because that was his kin.
Wendy seemed shocked by his offer and even a little taken aback as she looked at him. She told him that she couldn't take his money without knowing him nor him knowing her. She relented and that said in time, when they got to know each other and he got to know the baby, then maybe she would accept his offer. She then told him that he didn't have to, telling him that she knew that when she ran away that she was going to have to take care of the baby on her own with her own means. Elias shook his head. "Okay, I can understand getting to know each other, because obviously my brother doesn't make the best of references, but I will definitely support him or her financially. He's my kin and I'd basically be taking on the role that Elliot, if he were a normal male by any standard, should have right now." Elias grabbed a few fries and demolished them within a matter of seconds, wiping salt from his hands.
"We'll agree that the least I can do now is to give you my cell number, you don't even have to give me yours, and if you need anything, you'll get in touch with me." Elias told her calmly and confidently. "Now that I know about my nephew...or niece...I definitely want to be a part of their life. If you'll let me." God, he felt so awkward saying this to someone he had just barely met but hell, this may be his one and only chance at being an uncle. God knew how much longer his brother would be survive in this world much less be smart enough...or dumb enough...to bring another child into the world.

Wendy finally started to calm down now that she knew Elliot wouldn’t know about the baby, it had been her biggest fear that he would come and find a way to get rid of the child somehow. She knew he didn’t want kids, but she did and she wanted this baby no matter who the father was. She would raise the child right so that he or she didn’t turn out anything like their father because that just wasn’t a way to be in her eyes. She smiled a little more at his explanation for why he’d said sorry after the tiny slip that was basically no problem. It was nice to know at least one of the brothers seemed to be nice and a proper human being. It’s good that you love your mom…shows that you’re yet more different than Elliot. she said softly and wondered if maybe this was why Elliot had never let her meet Elias. The two were so different and really she’d have probably noticed earlier on and tried to get away from Elliot sooner rather than later. In honesty she’d always thought it was because his brother had been like him and maybe he was the type of person to not want to share his “plaything” as he’d called her more than once.
She bit her lip when he said not to worry about the cold food and shook her head a little stopping her search for her wallet thinking a moment before smiling a little at him. Maybe sometime you’ll let me get you a warm meal then to make up for having to eat the cold one now? she offered thinking maybe he didn’t have time to get more food now that she’d wasted so much of his time with her paranoia and freaking out. She didn’t know if he was a student or if he had a job or anything like that. She wouldn’t know since she didn’t know him at all actually. She still felt bad though for him not getting the warm meal he’d bought and she’d find a way to make it up to him sometime. It was odd to her to be sitting here across from a man who on the outside looked so much like Elliot, she’d never in her wildest dreams imagined there was a nice version of him out in the world and she knew she still couldn’t imagine that. It was very clear that the two were very different people just from how they acted and even how they spoke. Talking to Elias she didn’t look for hidden threats or meanings because he just didn’t seem the type of person to be that way or make those kinds of sentences that promised trouble without outright saying it.
The offer of the money was one she’d never expected, never seen coming and it had surprised her very much because he was offering to help her with a child his brother would never know was born. She knew he was just trying to be nice and figured he was back to trying to fix his brother’s mistakes like how he’d said sorry for Elliot before. She still couldn’t drop the responsibility onto his shoulders though because of her sense of right and wrong and because of her belief that people need to deal with their own problems and business themselves. She was actually a very private person though that shouldn’t seem surprising considering her life. She nodded to his words explaining about how he’d basically be taking on Elliot’s role and tilted her head to the side a little looking at Elias, You’re brother wouldn’t even know about this…I never expected to be helped or given money, I wouldn’t have gone to him for like…child support or anything because that would mean he’d know about the baby and I don’t want him to. You’re not taking on his responsibility because he has none to me? she said trying to explain to him how she viewed the situation. If…If we do get to know each other and some day you do give help to the child’s upbringing and life then I would hope it would be from…from some other way than just because you feel you have to fill your brothers shoes in the situation. I don’t want his help and you being his stand in makes it seem like his help. You’re nothing like him from what I can tell so you being in his shoes would be wrong.
She didn’t want him to be insulted but she wanted him to understand that she was going to make this work without his brother’s help or Elias’s guilt at his brother’s actions and mistakes. If he helped it had to come from some separate thought than just because it’s what his brother should do. She nodded a little to his suggestion thinking as she picked at her food not eating it, I would give you my number…That way you could get in touch with me as well if you had any questions about the baby or such. she said softly nervous about giving her number to Elliot’s brother but knowing she had to learn to trust people again. A cell phone could be thrown away if it’s number fell into the wrong hands anyway so it wasn’t a huge issue in her eyes. She nodded and gave him another little smile wiping off her fingers from picking at the fries. You can be part of their life…they deserve to know some of their family aside from just me. she said calmly and prayed she wasn’t making a huge mistake in agreeing to this.

Elias told her that he loved his mom and she commented that she was glad because that made him even more different than his twin. Elias looked at for a moment and coughed into a chuckle, "Elliot loves mom...in his own way." he said with a shrug, not intending to go any farther with that comment. When she offered to buy him a new burger, he declined, telling her not to worry herself over it and she smiled, stopping her hunt for the means to pay for it and looked at him. She proposed allowing her to buy him a warm meal some other time in exchange for the cold one he was currently working on. Looking down at his half-eaten sandwich, he picked it up and took another bite as he thought it over, chewing slowly to buy himself time that he didn't actually need. "I don't see where that'll be a problem." he said with a grin once he had cleared his mouth of residue. "However, I'm going to want to take you out to dinner as a thank you." Elias said smoothly, a charming grin playing on his face at that exact moment.
He offered to take on the child support that his good for nothing brother should be paying and she all but refused. At least, for the time being. She said that his brother didn't know anything about the child and he never would, meaning that she hadn't expected any outside help when it came to raising the baby financially. While Elias understood this, it didn't sit well with him at all. She told him that later on, once he had gotten to know them and actually wanted to support the kid for his own reasons instead of taking on his brother's responsibility, then she would be more willing to accept his help. This, he understood as well, didn't mean that he liked it. Wendy commented that him filling his brothers shoes would be wrong because they're nothing alike. He could tell that she didn't want him to be insulted and he wasn't, surprisingly. He understood where she was coming from, because apparently he was the logical side of the twin equation. Elliot was irrational while Elias was completely rational in thought.
He offered to give her his number with no strings attached and she agreed, to an extent. She said that she would give him her number too so that he could get in contact with her about the baby and what not. This made him feel a lot better about everything. When he commented about wanting to be a part of the infant's life, she told him that if he wanted, he could because the baby deserved to know it's family outside of her. Elias nodded and finished off his meal, sitting back with his pop in one hand, taking strong pulls of the liquid as he looked at her. "Sounds good." he said after a moment, finally agreeing. Setting his cup down, he pulled his phone out and then looked at her. Glancing back at the cell in his fingers, he fiddled with it for a moment before passing it off to her, a new contact screen flashing.

Wendy blushed as she realized what she had said and bit her lip looking down at the unfinished big mac and fries in front of her embarrassed by her lack of thinking before opening her mouth. When he said Elliot loved their mother in his own way she nodded and bit her lip fidgeting a little, I’m sorry…that came out wrong I didn’t mean to say he didn’t love your mom I just…he only mentioned your mom once while we were together and that was because he was going there for a holiday and he was telling me what I wasn’t allowed to do while he was gone? she said and then realized she’d said too much in bringing up what happened behind closed doors when Elliot went somewhere. She kept her eyes on the food she couldn’t bring herself to eat and nodded when he said he didn’t see where it would be a problem. Looking up a little confused she wondered what he meant by saying he was going to have to take her to dinner as a thank you, Why would you need to thank me for anything? Only thing I did was be that weird girl flipping out and making it so you food got cold before you could eat it? she mumbled softly confused.
Wendy had gone from being dependent on her parents and herself to being dependent on Elliot to fearing Elliot and now she was wholly independent standing on her own two feet. When she’d run away she’d taken any money she could find that was Elliot’s because he didn’t allow her to work so she’d had no money. She’d taken forty one dollars and twelve cents. She had gone to shelters for the homeless, the abused, and hospitals to get warm and have somewhere inside to stay while running because she couldn’t afford anything else. Once she’d settled in one town and found a job she had saved every penny she earned to build up enough money, and since she’d graduated her parents had her diploma and so the record was public file really and she’d been able to get the job through that. She’d applied for financial aid for college and had gotten into one even farther away. Getting what she needed she’d moved again but before she moved she’d sent an envelope with the exact amount she’d taken back to Elliot. She wouldn’t be in his debt at all. She owed him nothing now and he in her mind only owed her a life and a chance to live it with the baby…to stay away and not look for her.
Wendy didn’t want charity or pity, she’d actually worked for all she had now and she was still working during week days to get money and save it, she’d learned not to work at food places though, it either led to her being sick all through her shift or wanting to eat everything she handed over. She worked in a little shop not far from the McDonalds that sold books and school supplies at cheaper prices than the shops on school campus. She liked working there because it was money and it was a place where she’d see and meet other students while not being too crowded a place. She could walk there easily since it wasn’t too far from the College. When he said sounds good she broke out of her own thoughts and nodded watching him and biting her lip. When he passed over the phone she pulled out her own pulling up the new contact page as well and passed it over to him before putting her name and number into his phone for him. There…now you can reach me if you ever want to ask something or if…if you hear something from your brother. she said hoping he’d call if he ever got wind of his twin coming into town, she couldn’t risk running into Elliot like she’d run into Elias.

Elias listened as Wendy tried to explain herself and the comment she had made about Elliot and his mother. Elias understood where she had been coming from but he let her speak, not wanting to cut her off rudely. He could tell she was embarrassed and Elias looked at her for a moment, noticing she wouldn't look up at him. Especially after she told him that she had only heard of their mother once. That was when Elliot was heading there for the holidays and was telling her what she wasn't allowed to do. Wait, so Elliot hadn't brought her to their get together because...? Ugh, he just couldn't understand his twin sometimes. He really couldn't. But, one thing that was nagging at him was the fact that his brother had been telling her what she wasn't allowed to do. What that entailed didn't sit well with Elias at all. He continued to watch her face for a bit before speaking up, "Don't answer this if you don't feel comfortable doing so, but...did my brother control you?" he asked calmly, his face impassive but his eyes were full of caring concern for her. There wasn't anything he could do about his twin's actions now but dammit, he had to know what the hell his brother was doing to women.
They talked for a few moments more and she offered to buy him a hot meal one day to make up for the cold one he was currently devouring. He then said he wanted to take her to dinner as a thank you and she seemed confused by that concept. Her concern becoming clear as she asked him what he could be thanking her for. Elias grinned softly at that, not making fun of her but just to lighten the mood. "Well, for coming into my life. For buying me a hot meal. For allowing me to be in your child's life later on. Maybe." he said with a small shrug. "There are a number of things I could thank you for, I guess." He admitted, sipping on his drink once more.
They traded phones and each one put their number in before saving the contact and sliding the phones back to their respective owners. Elias listened as Wendy spoke up again, saying that he could reach her if he wanted to ask something or if he heard word about his brother. Elias nodded as he slipped his phone back into his pocket. "Will do." he said, agreeing to the unspoken question of him letting her know if Elliot were to show up here, or if he even made plans to. Elias leaned against the table, resting his chin on his hands for a second as he looked at Wendy. "I don't know what Elliot did to you...but I can promise he won't do it again. If you end up hearing something about him, let me know immediately. Okay?" Elias said confidently, knowing that he would stop his brother if he tried to do anything to this woman again. That was, if he ever came around. Which, as Elias had stated before, HIGHLY DOUBTFUL.

Wendy knew she probably should just stop talking, to avoid somehow insulting him or maybe avoid telling him more than he knew or wanted to know about his brother. She didn’t want to cause problems for him or his family with something she might say on accident. She didn’t know how much Elias knew about how his brother was, and she didn’t know how much Elliot hid from him and his family. She wouldn’t want to be the one who screwed things up for them all…she didn’t want to cause more problems. She bit her lip when he asked if his brother controlled her, she didn’t know how to answer this to him to be honest. She didn’t want to lie to him, lies would only cause more problems she’d learned and she liked Elias because he was so different from Elliot so she didn’t want to lie to him anyway. He… she chewed on her lip a little still not looking at him now and nodded a little. When I was with him I had rules to follow and…I guess that’s controlling? she said softly. It was an answer without being too specific and hopefully without causing a problem. He’d controlled every part of her life and had ruled it with a heavy fist.
She glanced toward the line seeing it wasn’t as bad as it had been during the lunch rush and deciding she’d have to get something to drink before she left since she normally had her drink to take with her for the walk back. Habit was a good thing with her because it meant she was in control of the situation and normally there weren’t surprises. Today had proven surprises were possible and at times knocked your ass but she didn’t mind because the surprise had ended well in bringing someone who she hoped would become a friend to her into her life. She’d been scared out of her mind at first but now knowing he wasn’t Elliot she wasn’t scared anymore. She was happy to have met the guy who was obviously the better half of the twins. She smiled a little at his answer her cheeks filling with a light rosy color at his words and shook her head a tiny bit, Most of those aren’t things you’d have to thank me for? One’s fate, another’s making up for something that’s my fault, and the last is maybe something you could thank me for but I’d rather you didn’t since the baby’s part of your family even if that means it’s always going to be connected to Elliot? she mumbled with a little shrug.
She took her phone back clearing it back to the main screen and pushed the button to turn the screen black before tucking it into her purse and nodded glad he’d agreed. She couldn’t handle a surprise like this again, especially since now she’d think it was Elias she was talking to not Elliot since he didn’t live here. She looked up at him nodding to what he said and gave a little smile. I will call you if I ever hear something about him or from him? she said softly and fidgeted a little thinking. She wanted to know more about Elias, he seemed nice and he wanted to be part of the baby’s life so it seemed smart to get to know him to her mind. She just didn’t know how to ask without being rude or coming across wrong. She needed to try though, So do you um…do you go to the college? she asked her tone it’s normal soft volume but with curiosity mixed into it.

As he heard Wendy confess that she had rules to follow when she was with Elliot, Elias felt both his jaw and the fist on his thigh tighten considerably in irritation. Not at Wendy, no not at all, but at his twin. He and Elliot were two very different people and it seemed that Elias had gained all of the sensitivity, compassion, and sympathy that his family possessed. Man, he wished that someone would control his brother, just once. He wanted someone to whip the guy into shape. He knew that people couldn't change because a leopard couldn't change his spots but dammit it just annoyed him. Badly. When he told her all of things he could thank her for, she told him that he shouldn't thank her for them because one was fate, one was her fault, and the other was family. Okay, so maybe that was the case but he still wanted to thank her for everything. It was just something that was ingrained inside of him, unlike Elliot.
She acknowledged that the baby would forever be connected to Elliot and it didn't seem to faze her much, he guessed that she didn't mind that aspect since she and the baby were safe from him. Elias would even bet that she was happy to be have the baby, most women were. But, he could be wrong. With a mental shake, he filled out his information on her phone and passed it back to her, taking his back as well when it was slid his way. He requested that she contact him if she heard anything about Elliot and she agreed. Silence fell for a few moments before she spoke up again, asking if he went to the college. Elias looked at her and nodded, "Yeah, studying child development." he said with a small shrug of broad shoulders. "What about you?" Elias asked, his thoughts flashing back to Elliot for a moment. The guy had no aspirations in life and that was the most tragic thing about him. It was on top of a list of problems his brother had but, well, it couldn't be helped he guessed. His twin was a lost cause and, as much as he hated to admit it, his parents were probably happy that they'd had twins. Elias was definitely the golden child.
